Etna, we decided on Sicily Legend's’ shore excursion to Messina and Tindari. We were so lucky to have Rosario as our guide. He was amazing — extremely knowledgeable, accommodating and entertaining. He knows so much about the history of Messina and Sicily, giving me insight into what my family experienced in the years before they immigrated to the U.S. He picked us up at our cruise terminal and drove us to beautiful Tindari, located on the Gulf of Patti. The views of the Aeolian Islands and the Stromboli volcano were amazing. We toured the ruins of the old town and the acropolis (c. 396 B.C.) as well as visiting the Sanctuary and learning the fascinating story of the Black Madonna. Back to Messina for a tour of the area, a visit to the Regional Interdisciplinary Museum of Messina (MuMe) and a stop to get a true Sicilian cannoli (just like my grandma use to make!). Etna I have to mention how I found this tour for my husband and our friends. I had booked another private tour when they inexplicably cancelled our reservation. Thankfully, we had plenty of time to find this wonderful tour whose team members answered all of our questions promptly through pickup. Gianfranco was an amazing driver and guide: instructive and educational but entertaining and funny, from the moment he picked us up in Taormina, to the highest drop off point on the mountain, and back. It was a top-notch experience from initial contact (where I had to ask for a special pickup location) through to the end. On the mountain, Rosario was extremely passionate and knowledgable - providing a fantastic blend of geologic, social and historical insights that really brought the experience to life. Absolutely wonderful tour! Our guide Rosario was entertaining and knowledgeable. The tour included villages where the Godfather movies were filmed but the tour was so much more. We went to see two very old villages and learned about their people, culture, and history. We got a drink inside the bar where they shot the scene where Michael “asks” to court Apolonia, so that was very cool for fans like us. I would absolutely recommend Sicily Legend Tours!
